Hi, I’m Dalia, the gardener, DIY enthusiast, and dahlia lover behind DIY Dalias. If you’re here, chances are you share my passion for creating beautiful gardens, tackling DIY projects, and discovering the absolute joy that comes from growing stunning dahlias.

My Dahlia Journey

My love affair with dahlias began 20 years ago when I planted my first tuber in my Zone 7 garden. That single plant produced blooms so spectacular that I was instantly hooked. What started with one variety has grown into a collection of over 6 varieties so many plants, and I’ve spent countless hours learning everything I can about these remarkable flowers.

Through years of hands-on experience, I’ve learned what works (and what doesn’t!) when it comes to growing dahlias, I’ve faced challenges like:

• Tubers rotting from overwatering (lesson learned!)
• Plants toppling over in summer storms (hello, proper staking!)
• Struggling with pests and diseases (organic solutions for the win!)
• Storing tubers through harsh winters
• Maximizing bloom production

Each challenge taught me something valuable, and now I’m passionate about sharing those lessons with you so you can avoid the same mistakes and grow gorgeous dahlias from the start.

Beyond Dahlias: My DIY Roots

The world of DIY wasn’t a hobby I picked up later in life – it’s in my blood! I grew up in a household where fixing, building, and creating were the norm. Weekends were spent with my family tackling projects, from painting rooms to building shelves. HGTV and DIY shows weren’t just background noise – they were our inspiration source!

Fast forward to adulthood, and let’s just say sticker shock became a frequent visitor when it came to home improvement costs. It was then that I truly appreciated the valuable lessons instilled in me during those DIY weekends. I learned the power of hard work, the importance of finding inspiration (hello, endless reruns!), and most importantly, the belief that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Homeownership has been my personal DIY bootcamp. From conquering the seemingly impossible task of removing cement shingles and installing vinyl siding (seriously, never again!), to replacing a burst pipe with new copper (thanks, Dad!), to building garden trellises and raised beds for my dahlias, I’ve tackled it all.
